News- Artistic Director

We would like to announce that Frank Wibaut, our Artistic Director of Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, has decided to step down from his role. Frank was appointed as Artistic Director in 2011 joining the late Molly Townson, Michael Foster and Sarah and David Kowitz in reviving the piano competition, beginning a journey that led to the competition receiving international recognition.

Under Frank’s directorship, the competition has grown substantially so that in 2019 it had 176 contestants from around 30 countries, with  live auditions in the UK, Italy, USA, China and Japan. Many of our prize winners have gone on to major international careers.

Frank Wibaut said “When Molly Townson invited me to design, develop and internationalise the Competition in Hastings, it was a great challenge and happily there has been a magnificent growth.

I feel enormous gratitude towards all the wonderful volunteers, hosts, Juries, Conductors, Friends,  Patrons, Sponsors, Yamaha and the RPO and all other Supporters for all their help!
My vision has always been to promote the careers of talented young pianists  from all over the world  and to present some of them to the Competition’s truly fabulous ‘Hastings audience’ and also far beyond. Thank you all for your true generosity of spirit, your friendship and support  throughout my time with HIPCC, which I hope will continue on its success.

On behalf of the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition team, we would like to thank Frank for his contribution over the past 8 years as Artistic Director and wish him the very best wishes in his future endeavours.
